Baseball has always been an integral part of the American cultural fabric. This great game is a representation of our values and aspirations. As our country has grown and changed through the decades, so has baseball. Since the West Michigan Whitecaps inaugural year of 1994, we have been committed to being an inclusive and welcoming community asset. A family-friendly event that all West Michigan residents can proudly attend.
As part of this commitment, we change our name on select dates to Calaveras de West Michigan! These games will be centered on celebrating Latin culture and the influence it has had on America's pastime, including fun giveaways, food, team uniforms and much, much more. We invite you to join us at these games as we represent West Michigan in Minor League Baseball's national celebration, the Copa de la Diversion!
2025 marks the 6th year we will play as Las Calaveras de West Michigan, and we chose to revitalize our colors, jerseys, caps, and more to demonstrate our commitment to honoring the impact the Latin community has had on, not only the game of baseball, but all West Michigan and the Whitecaps for years to come.
Originally starting as part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión, it has blossomed into a wonderful community relationship, tying in visits to Hispanic schools, radio stations, and partnerships with local businesses through the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
The new color scheme keeps the local flavors from our original design, like the 616-area code in the eyes of the sugar skull and the original Whitecaps logo on the forehead, while presenting them in bold, new colors that we will wear proudly at LMCU Ballpark and around the West Michigan community.
